Musical Theatre in Brighton

Part of your session will be spent learning about how the voice works, the best way to warm up your ‘instrument’ and how singing involves your whole body, not just your throat! We will be offering both novice and experienced singers through a range of exercises specially selected to suit age, range and musical taste to have fun while we learn and improve. Whether you’re a fan of classic or modern musical theatre, or somewhere in between, this part of the class will support you to understand and improve your singing voice. 

The other section of the singing session looks at acting through song. Even some of the best vocalists struggle to convey their emotions to the audience when they sing. We will teach you how to use your face and body alongside your vocals to make your performance come to life. 

Another part of your performing arts session at Joe's Academy of Music will be spent looking at the many different aspects of acting. Drama helps to build confidence, creativity, and communication skills in a fun and engaging way. Through improvisation, role-playing, script work and games, students can learn to express themselves more clearly and work effectively with others. Drama also encourages empathy, as it allows learners to explore different perspectives and emotions. In addition to boosting self-esteem, drama lessons can improve public speaking abilities and foster a sense of teamwork.

The third section of our performing arts sessions will be centred around dance and movement. Musical Theatre dance classes will be adapted to suit the level and experience of our students but will comprise of a mixture of tap, ballet, jazz, modern and contemporary dance, as well as musical staging. 

Dance classes are a fantastic way to encourage physical activity, creativity, and self-expression from an early age and these skills can be developed into adulthood. Through learning different dance styles and routines, we develop coordination, balance, and rhythm while also improving fitness and posture. Dance helps build confidence as students perform in front of others and work together in groups, fostering teamwork and discipline. It’s also a great outlet for releasing energy and emotions in a positive, structured environment.
